Hearts in motions mission statement is: “Defending the cause of the poor and needy” Hearts in motion (HIM) is an organisation that was set up in June 2007 out of a desire to help street children from the slums and city streets of Chennai in South India and provide a safe and loving place for them to grow up and re-integrate into society.
HistoryIn 2006 HIM had the privilege to work alongside with Freddy and Daisy who run a programme called Rescue and Restore within an organisation called YWAM, in Chennai. For the last 20 years, they have been working amongst the children from the streets and in the slums of Chennai. They have a shelter where they take care of 40 ex-street children and provide them with a home, food, schooling and above all love. Our hearts were touched by this wonderful work and realised that there was a huge need among this particular group of children. Desire of Hearts in MotionHIM’s desire is to work with self minded people who have a heart to work among street children. We have quickly learned to work with street children means to work with and sustain relationships with every element of the impoverished society of Chennai. This has led us to several other areas of work like relationship building in the slums with counselling and general chats, offering basic medical care, setting-up personal development groups with men and woman using the Bible as an inspirational tool. Creating community building events such as regular sports events. In all that we do we seek to connect with and serve the community while building relationships of trust and acceptance. |
